Brewpub Tour 2014
In early May of 2014, Tom and Iris departed on a road trip to visit family in Iowa and Indiana. To make the drive more enjoyable, they decided to stop along the way and sample craft beer at local microbreweries and brewpubs. At each stop they would order a "flight" of beer to share. It's like wine tasting. You get 4 or more small glasses (usually 4 ounces) of different craft beers that they currently have on tap. Early on, I made the mistake of asking for a "flight to sample ALL of your craft beer". We ended up with 17 4-ounce glasses of yummy craft beer with an alcohol content ranging up to 12%. Luckily, our hotel room was only a few blocks away. We enjoyed most of the craft beer we sampled during our road trip, emptying the small glasses while consuming food. We discovered many different flavors infused into beer: orange, lemon, watermellon, raspberry, apricot, jalapeno, chocolate, vanilla, coffee. During our road trip we also started a collection of souvenir logo pint glasses which were for sale at most breweries for about $5. (photo on right). We managed to stop and sample craft beer at 23 microbreweries and brewpubs across 11 states.
