Paris 2006
In April of 2006, Tom and his wife traveled to Paris for one week to see all the sights and enjoy Paris in the spring time. Home base during their stay was at the Hotel du Louvre, across the street from the Louvre, a very nice central location for exploring the city. They purchased 5-day Batobus passes for cruising up and down the Seine during their stay. They had a great time visiting the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, Musee du Louvre, Opera Garnier, and Arc de Triomphe. On the Left Bank, they strolled through the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg in full bloom and visited the old Pantheon. They also enjoyed a couple glasses of wine at an outdoor sidewalk cafe, where they witnessed a massive police movement to contain student unrest at the Sorbonne, the historic University of Paris. One evening, they enjoyed (especially Tom) a dinner show at the famous Moulin Rouge. They took a bus tour out to Versailles. Unfortunately, there was a lot of construction going on and the gardens were not planted with flowers yet. On their last day, they experienced the subway, traveling up to Montmartre where they saw Sacre Coeur, the Basilica of the Sacred-Heart. They stopped at Place du Tertre, where a local artist drew a caricature of the couple, and then on to Cafe des Ceux Moulins (cafe in the movie Amelie) for lunch. Eiffel Tower
