China 2007
Tom and his wife, along with his sister and brother-in-law, traveled to China in April of 2007 for a two week tour with Viking River Cruises. It was a fantastic tour with a great tour director named Arnold (photo on the right). They started the tour with 3 days in Hong Kong where they visited Victoria Peak for the breathtaking view of the city, visited Aberdeen for a sampan ride, and went shopping at Stanley Market. They even had some free time to go geocaching. Next was a flight to Guilin for a day on the beautiful Li River, before flying on to Shanghai for 2 days. Here, they visited Old Shanghai, Yuyuan Garden, the Shanghai Museum, and took a drive along the Bund. Then they flew inland to board a river boat for a 4 day cruise on the Yangtze River. They saw the Three Gorges Dam and lots of beautiful scenery cruising through the main gorges and the Lesser Three Gorges. They stopped in Fengu to go spelunking in the Snow Jade Cave, and at the end of the cruise, they visited the zoo in Chongqing to see the giant panda bears. Next was a flight to Xian to see the famous Terra Cotta Army. And last, a flight to Beijing to experience Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and best of all, the Great Wall of China.
