The following information is taken from "Works Progress Administration of Virginia Historical Inventory," dated June 21, 1937, located at The Library of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. Research made by Francis B. Foster, The Plains, Virginia. The write-up is part of the Virginia W.P.A. Historical Inventory Project, sponsored by the Virginia Conservation Commission.

Subject: "Rosemont"

The report shows that Rosemont is located 2.3 miles north of Marshall, Virginia on the south side of Route #702. Reuben Strother built a small house at this location in 1801. Andrew Wolf built the large brick house in 1849. Additional work to the home was done by Frederick H. Prince in 1936. The owners of the home: Reuben Strother in 1800; Henry Rector in 1837; Andrew Woolf in 1848; Elmer Woolf (grandson of Andrew); and then Frederick H. Prince in 1935. When Andrew Woolf bought the home it was a small stone house. He enlarged the home and connected the new brick dwelling with the old stone dwelling. There was an old stone dairy near the well, which was noted for its ice cold water. There was also "an old log four-room cabin left over from the slave quarters...." The report cited its sources as: Mrs. Kate Woolf Kinchloe of Marshall, Virginia; Mrs. Elmer Woolf of Marshall, Virginia; and Fauquier County Records, Deed Book 37, page 194, Deed Book 47, page 323, and Deed Book 140, page 527.
