Biography and Timeline
Aaron Ruse enlisted in the army in Loudoun County, Virginia in the spring of 1779. He served during the Revolutionary War in Captain Isaiah Mark's company and in Colonel Abraham Buford's Virginia regiment. He was in the battle of Hanging Rock in South Carolina and was discharged on October 25, 1780. He received a war pension which he applied for on August 25, 1832 at age 68.
He married Ruth Phillips on March 25, 1786. To this union were born seven boys and three girls: Aaron, Jr., Edmond, Thomas, John, William, Andrew, Jesse, Nancy, Ruth, and Polly.

The Will of Aaron Ruse, September 13, 1837
I Aaron Ruse of the County of Clinton, State of Ohio, being weak in body, but of sound & disposing mind, memory & understanding and considering the certainly of death and the uncertainly of the time there of do make and publish this as my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit. It is my desire that all my just debts be paid as early as convenient after my decease, Edmond Ruse & Thomas Ruse both decease have both received their full share of my Estate and their heirs are entitled to no part there of. It is my will and desire that my beloved wife Ruth occupy & enjoy the whole of the farm where on we now reside, with its rents dues & profits during her natural life; I also give and bequeath to my beloved wife Ruth all the personal property. I may die obsolved of over & above what is neccasary to sell to pay the debts against my Estate which I desire may be sold as soon as convenient after my decease. Where as Aaron Ruse Jr. John Ruse William Ruse Andrew Ruse Jesse Ruse my son's have received land of me to the value of one hundred and fifty dollars each. It is my will that after the death of my wife Ruth that the whole of my land be sold that out of the proceeds of the sale Nancy Pitser receive one hundred & fifty dollars, Ruth Tharp receive one hundred and fifty dollars, & Polly Ruble receive also the sum of one hundred & fifty dollars that the balance of the monies arising from the sale of my land with the residue of all my property be devided. Share and share alike between Aaron Jr., John, William, Andrew, Jesse, Nancy Pitser, Ruth Tharp & Polly Ruble my sons & daughters their heirs assigns forever. It is my desire that Joseph W. Dixon receive his horse saddle and bridle worth sixty dollars and other dues as for contract in writing upon, condition that he perform and continue in the service of my beloved wife untill of lawful age. It is also my will that Sarah Jones five children namely, Matilda, Lucinda, Nancy, Silas, & Allen, each receive the sum of five dollars, after the decease of my beloved wife. I do hereby appoint my beloved sons Aaron Ruse and William Ruse Executors to my Estate. In witness where of I have here unto sat my hand & seal the thirthteenth of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven.Signed Sealed and delivered hisin the presence of Aaron Ruse's Aaron X Rusename being initialed before executors markWilliam George, John E.
