Warren Resident Answers Summons. George E. Chopson, 85, Dies At His Home After Long Illness. George E. Chopson, 85, lifelong resident of Huntington county, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home in Warren, following an illness of a year. Death was attributed to infirmities of age. The decedent, a retired farmer, was born Feb. 16, 1858 in Salamonie township, Huntington county, a son of John and Susanna Stout[sic-Stroup] Chopson. He was married Dec. 8, 1880 to Sarah Jane Roberts, who survives. Surviving besides the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Edna Maxwell, of Oil Center, Mich., Mrs. Susan Thompson, and Mrs. Mary White, both of Warren; seven sons, Elisha Chopson, of Carlton, Mich., Harmon, John, Wilford, Alfred and Ben Chopson, all of Warren, and Marshall Chopson, of Marion; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Morgan, Mrs. Merton Crandel and Miss Elizabeth Chopson, all of Warren, and Mrs. Berdie Bowerman, of Seattle, Wash., and two brothers, Ellsworth Chopson, of Terre Haute, and Edwin Chopson of Louisville, Ky. A daughter, Mrs. Maggie Boyer, is deceased. Mr. Chopson was a member of the Methodist church at Warren, where funeral services will be held in charge of Rev. L. M. Hile. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery at Warren. The time of the services had not been announced today.

Warren Woman Dies at Age of 90. Mrs. Sarah Jane Chopson, 90, widow of George Chopson, died at 3:25 a.m. Sunday at her home in Warren. She was a lifelong resident of Huntington county and had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill since November. Surviving are five sons, Wilford, Elisha and Alfred Chopson, Warren, and Harmon and Marshall Chopson, Marion; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Maxwell, Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and Mrs. Susie Thompson and Mrs. Mary White, Warren; 31 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and two brothers, George Roberts, Warren, and Elisha Roberts, R.R. 1, Warren. Mrs. Chopson was a member of the Methodist church in Warren. The body was removed to the H. Brown and Son funeral home in Warren and was taken this afternoon to the residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Warren with Rev. Thurman Mott officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.

Minerva Chopson Dies at Warren. Miss Minerva Elizabeth Chopson, 87, a native and lifelong resident of Huntington county, died Saturday night at her home at Warren, following an illness of four years. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. J. W. Bowerman, Seattle, Wash. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Warren Methodist church, of which Miss Chopson was a member, with Rev. M. E. Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. The body, taken to the Brown & Son funeral home was returned to the residence.
Estella Chopson obituary, Bluffton, Indiana Evening News Banner Tuesday, November 11, 1930:
Estella Chopson Dies At Seattle. Body Of Former Warren Woman To Be Returned For Burial Word had been received at Warren of the death of Miss Estella Chopson, 60, who died at her home at Seattle, Washington, on Monday morning following an illness of two weeks. Miss Chopson was a former resident of Warren and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George[sic-John] Chopson. She has been a teacher in the Seattle schools. Surviving are six sisters, Mrs. Rufus Crandall, Mrs. Eliza Thompson and Mrs. Rose Morgan, of Warren; Miss Eliza Chopson and Mrs. J. W. Bowerman of Seattle; Mrs. Emma Thompson of Marion; and three brothers, Ed Chopson, Louisville, Ky.; George Chopson, of Warren; and Elsworth Chopson of Terre Haute. The body will be brought to Warren and is expected to arrive late Friday or Saturday. Funeral plans have not been made.

Rufus A. Brandal [sic Crandel] Dies Early Today. Well-Known Warren Citizen Dies At Hospital At Huntington. Rufus A. Crandel, 59, died at 6:30 this morning at the Huntington county hospital in Huntington. He had been in poor health for the past two years and had been confined to the hospital for the past week suffering from a glandular trouble. Mr. Crandel was born March 22, 1872, on a farm north of Warren, a son of Ellihu and Rosanna Crandel. About twenty-eight years ago he was married to Miss Mryton [sic Merton] Chopson. For twenty-five years Mr. Crandel had been a partner in the Sutton-Crandel grocery at Warren. A few years ago the partnership dissolved, since that time Mr. Crandel had been a salesman of shrubbery for a nursery company. Surviving are the widow and one sister, Mrs. Frank Lewis, of Warren. He was a member of the Warren M. E. church. Funeral services had not been made late today.

From Biographical Memoirs of Huntington County, 1901, William Chopson, pages 496-501:
His (William's) father was George Chopson, whose grandfather is said to have died while en route to America and was buried in the ocean. His son falling into the hands of a German woman the name being corrupted from Ackerman to that it is to-day. His mother was Elizabeth Ann Darbyshire, who, though born in America, was of Irish ancestry. When William was still a child they moved to Guernsey county, Ohio, and soon after to Clinton county, where the parents died. The family is noted for the longevity of its members, William being one of eight children, all of whom are still living, the youngest being past sixty-one. Mary A. is the widow of James Stillings, of Warren; William is the third; John, is a retired farmer of Warren ; Martha J. lives in Kansas; Margret E. resides in California, and is remembered by some of the older citizens as having lived here when a girl many years ago; Sarah is also in the same state; and Catherine is Mrs. J. J. Miller, of Warren.
